Dana Spinola, founder and CEO of Atlanta-based fab’rik, is one of the city’s biggest fashion influencers, with a personal style that’s both effortless and edgy at the same time. “I would guess that 90 percent of my closet is black, white or denim,” Spinola says. “If I could mix the classy sophistication of Calvin Klein with the edgy, one-of-a-kind style of Alexander McQueen, that would be my ‘work hard, play hard’ closet.” The icon also happens to have an enormous heart for giving back and says she’s most inspired right now by the impact that fab’rik’s nonprofit arm, free fab’rik, is having on local communities. “I’ve always loved how clothing makes you feel, but watching it restore dignity, confidence and hope to women is the most inspiring thing I can imagine,” she says. As she gears up for the release of her book this fall, Spinola takes a moment to break down three of her go-to looks, all incorporating the same closet staple. @danaspinola; @fabrikstyle
Look 1: Day at the Office
“I am obsessed with my Spanx faux leather side stripe leggings ($110, fab’rik and fabrikstyle.com)—they are my must-have item of the fall,” Spinola shares. “They’re so easy to dress up or dress down, so you can really wear them with anything.” Here, they look #girlboss tough with a leather jacket and pair of statement booties, but the contrast of a breezy floral top adds softness and movement.
Look 2: Date Night
Here, Spinola dresses up the leggings for an evening out, which is easy to do since “the track stripe down the side is extremely flattering and gives them a little edge,” she says. Her snakeskin Peter top in wine ($69, fab’rik and fabrikstyle.com)—another wardrobe workhorse—rounds out the look, and bonus: It’s part of fab’rik’s in-house-designed Asher Collection, with a portion of proceeds going to Project 82 Kenya to provide financial support for Kenyan orphans awaiting adoption.
Look 3: Carpool Chic
“With my crazy, full life, it is important that everything in my closet be able to work for mom life and CEO life, and these leggings definitely fit the bill,” Spinola says. When it’s time to drop off and pick up her kids from school, she pairs the piece with a T-shirt and black bomber for an outfit that’s laid-back, yell still pulled together—not to mention totally comfortable.
