Get back (and give back) to ATL's rap roots with Veazey Studio's iconic hand-painted Atlanta rap map, just released after more than four years in the making.
After four years, Veazey Studio (@veazeystudio) has hand-painted our favorite rappers and all of their Atlanta references into one “road map.” “I wanted to document something that I felt was not going to be fully documented and might eventually be lost in time,” says Joseph Veazey, chief creative of Veazey Studio. The map highlights communities mentioned in rap lyrics and the artists who wrote them, with all proceeds going to HOPE Atlanta, an organization offering assistance and resources for people who are at risk of losing their homes due to gentrification. In colorful squares surrounding the map, iconic artists such as T.I., Outkast and Migos are featured among over 50 years’ worth of rap history. “I’m planning to update it every year and let it grow into something truly iconic for the city,” shares Veazey. Hard to look away from, the map perfectly captures the unique rap culture found in the city. “There’s just something about Atlanta hip-hop—I can’t explain it!”
