In celebration of the opening of exhibition Madame Grès: The Art of Draping at SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film (@scadfash), SCAD President Paula Wallace hosted an intimate reception and conversation at the museum with Olivier Saillard, famed fashion historian, curator and director of Fondation Azzedine Alaïa. This exclusive preview took guests through the intricate gown design process of Madame Grès, who preferred to drape directly on the model and mostly made gowns out of only one piece of fabric.

Saillard, in conversation with SCAD FASH creative director Rafael Gomes, discussed the significance of Madame Grès’ work and legacy as one of fashion’s most masterful haute couturiers, as well as this one-of-a-kind exhibition at SCAD FASH curated from the private collection of the late designer Azzedine Alaïa, presented publicly for the first time. The exhibition showcases 70 pieces specially selected from 900. “Talking about Madame Grès is talking about [timelessness], not talking about fashion,” says Saillard. This amazing exhibition is on view now at SCAD FASH through June 30—and we’re here to tell you it’s a must-see.
