Taco That Talk

Caliente bites and ice-cold tequila have found a new home in Brookhaven at Jefe’s Tacos & Tequila. The tacos and margaritas concept from chef Joey Riley and the team behind Kaleidoscope Bistro & Pub is churning out elevated South of the Border cuisine in a lively and energetic atmosphere. Setting up shop in the former Noche space at Town Brookhaven, the modern cantina boasts ornate pendant lighting, deep-blue Mexican tiles and expansive wooden communal tables that make meeting a new friend all but certain. The party continues outside on the covered patio complete with its own bar, flat-screen TVs and heaters to keep guests warm well into the fall.

Jefe’s namesake tacos rule over the menu in chicken, pork, steak, seafood and even veggie varieties. Heat things up with Trailer on Fire, a Baja chicken taco adorned in Jefe’s “hotter-than-Nashville” hot sauce; or get a Hawaiian/Mexican mashup in the al pastor with guajillo-spiked pork, pineapple and fiery orange sauce. Crispy smoked wings doused in Diablo sauce are not for the faint of heart, while the sope ranchero offers a savory counterbalance. Feelin’ thirsty? With 50-plus selections covering Mexico’s finest agave fields, the wide selection of tequilas at Jefe’s plays well with the signature Jefe Pinche-Rita, with freshly squeezed Key lime and mandarin orange liqueur; the smoked pineapple-infused La Fuma de Pina; and the frozen margarita/cerveza combo called the Iceberg. Talk about brain freeze! With a happening bar scene, craveworthy tacos, and an atmosphere perfect for catching a game with the guys or unwinding over margs with the girls, it’s clear that Jefe is the boss.
