Buckhead Diner’s collard greens and smoked ham hock soup
1. Alma Cocina
Head downtown to this upscale Mexi outpost for a little Latin flavor this fall. Its pork cheek and butternut squash posole is a mixture of butternut squash broth, red cabbage, radish, juicy pork cheek, lime and even tequila- compressed apples (yep, you read that right). Downtown, $9
2. Saltyard
After outdoor brunching at this Buckhead hot spot during warmer months, we’re heading inside to cozy up with a bowl of the curried carrot soup—complete with spiced Chantilly cream and cilantro. Buckhead, $7
3. Table & Main
Dining in Roswell? This self- proclaimed “Southern tavern” is bringing a taste of South Carolina to ATL with their Charleston she-crab soup, made with fresh lump crab, sherry and chile oil that tastes as good as it looks. Roswell, $12
4. Buckhead Diner
While items like the warm Maytag blue-cheese chips are staples on this resto’s menu, their collard greens and smoked ham hock soup is a newer addition—and with olive oil toasted sourdough croutons rounding out the mix of Southern flavors, we predict a status of instant classic in no time. Buckhead, $6
5. Steel Restaurant
This sleek sushi spot serves up more than what comes in a roll. For autumn, they’ve concocted a decadent Thai chicken coconut soup with Thai chiles, grilled chicken, coconut milk and Kaffir lime leaves, finished with flavors of curry, fresh lemongrass, cilantro and basil. Midtown, $5
