A Royal Affair

By Chris Watkins | December 23, 2015 | Articles National

Fresh off the opening of new steakhouse Marcel, restaurant king Ford Fry has unveiled his ninth Atlanta concept, Bar Margot, a swanky lounge in the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta named after Margot Tenenbaum of The Royal Tenenbaums fame.

The concept’s menu, created in collaboration with Four Seasons Executive Chef Robert Gerstenecker, sings with thoughtful snacks like punch potatoes with creme fraiche, trout roe and a farm egg; crab toast with avocado coulis and herbs; handmade pastas; house-cured meats; and entrees that leverage local produce and the hotel’s rooftop garden.

On the cocktail side, celebrated barmen Greg Best and Paul Calvert have developed wow-worthy libations. Try the Gin Margot, an amped up play on the classic gin and tonic with sherry; or the Mercy Street, an upgraded Old-Fashioned that’s a slow sipper of Irish whiskey, vermouth, orange curaƧao and bitters. Then, wile away the hours in a cozy tufted booth while taking in a collection of tunes curated by Fry himself, spanning funk, rock and soul. “Atlanta needs a cool hotel bar with high-service standards, big-flavor food and zero pretension,” explains the James Beard nominee. Mission accomplished. @barmargotatl
