Both the city of Atlanta and sexy Venezuelan actor Rafael De La Fuente will take the spotlight this month when Dynasty premieres on The CW. The 30-year-old, who you may know from TV hits like Empire as well as the ABC miniseries When We Rise, stars in the reboot of the 1980s drama series—now set in ATL instead of Denver—that follows two feuding families, the Carringtons and the Colbys. “It is inspired and based on the original, but it’s definitely its own thing,” says De La Fuente. (Case in point: He plays Sam, a gay male version of Sammy Jo, the character originally portrayed by Heather Locklear, who he describes as the naughty antagonist you can’t help but love.) “It’s very up-to-date and modern. It’s drama, fashion, sex, comedy.” And that makes sense given Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are the show’s developers, the same people behind the bingeworthy soaps of your high school and college days like The O.C. and Gossip Girl.
As someone who has lived in big cities like Miami and Los Angeles, De La Fuente admits he wasn’t sure what to expect from filming in A-Town. “But I was so surprised at how fun and varied, how green, lush, beautiful—just what an awesome place Atlanta is,” he says. When he’s not on set, spot this heartthrob at his new faves Ecco in Midtown or Barcelona Wine Bar and Sotto Sotto in Inman Park, as he admits, “I love a good wining and dining experience.” Premieres Oct. 11, 9pm, @rafaeldlf
