Next time a party is calling your name, look to Ulysses for a custom ensemble; you’ll arrive dressed to impress.
Decatur-born Carl Ulysses dreamed of becoming a major-league pitcher, until an injured shoulder cost him his career. But baseball’s loss was fashion’s gain. The Morehouse College alum enrolled in a few classes in Clark Atlanta University’s fashion department, learned to sew—and the rest is history. After working with several high-profile clients, followed by a five-year stint in New York, Ulysses received a call inviting him to move back to ATL and tailor in the movie industry—a moment “that changed my life,” he says. To date, he’s tailored for more than 30 films, not including commercials, music videos, magazine photo shoots and more. Ulysses’ proudest accomplishment? “Being a tailor for the Black Panther movie,” he shares. “I made some very important pieces for that film.” Now with his own Buckhead showroom—where he focuses on custom menswear and womenswear as well as alterations—the sartorialist is certainly staying busy. Look for his work to appear in BET’s The Bobby Brown Story, airing Sept. 4 and 5, plus The House Next Door hitting theaters in October and Boy Erased (starring Lucas Hedges, Russell Crowe, Joel Edgerton and Nicole Kidman) in November.
