A family heirloom is something a family adores, admires and, sometimes, even fights over. It is a piece of history from past generations that tells a story, gives insight and makes us think of special people in our lives. L.A.-based furniture and lighting designer Lulu LaFortune of Lulu LaFortune Limited (@lulu.lafortune) is in the business of creating timeless furniture pieces full of integrity that will serve as the future heirlooms for the current generation. After graduating from Savannah College of Art and Design where she honed her craft of interior, furniture and textile design, LaFortune worked alongside big names such as Kelly Wearstler, eventually moving and basing her brand in L.A. The designer’s debut collection, Joie De Vivre, was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and Parisian refinement, while keeping a very millennial and youthful spirit.
“When the entire world quickly moved inside and everyone picked up elaborate hobbies and perfected passion projects during all their free time, I took the leap to launch my first solo furniture line,” says LaFortune. “I saw the phrase ‘joie de vivre’ and knew it embodied the spirit of my first collection, because if we have all learned anything during the past year it is that we all must find joy in the little things to make it through the hardest times.” Within the collection, expect boudoir and table lamps, tasseled and patterned pillows, a side table, a regal armchair and more. Head over to LaFortune’s Instagram for a peek inside all the places and experiences that led to this colorful and inspired collection.
