Bombshell actress Elaine Hendrix has been in the JEZ family since her cover debut back in 1999, when she riled us up as the fabulously evil Meredith in The Parent Trap. Since then she’s rocked the big and small screens in favorites like ABC’s Mistresses, FX’s Anger Management, Saturday Night Live’s Superstar and cult classic Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion. Now, the Atlanta native and Northside School of Performing Arts grad is sassing up Thursday nights on FX as the musically inclined Ava on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, opposite Denis Leary, John Corbett and Elizabeth Gillies. Here, Hendrix dishes on her love for A-Town and living like a rock star. @elaine4animals
Tell us about your role as Ava.
Ava is Johnny’s—played by Denis Leary—longtime girlfriend, backup singer and percussionist for his band. In season two, Ava starts to step up, and we really start to [learn] more about her and how complicated the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle really is.
We’ve heard you’re all really singing and playing instruments on the show. Will we ever see a tour?
We’d love to. We’re just all kids getting to do what we do best and doing it with people that we love on a great project on a great network. We’d totally be down for something like that.
You got your start in the entertainment business in Atlanta. Any standout memories?
In the late ’80s, I would go to the Omni Center [now Philips Arena], and I would see every big rock concert that came through—Guns N’ Roses, ACDC, Mötley Crüe, Journey—I was into all of those bands.
Many of us know you from The Parent Trap, playing Lindsay Lohan’s soon-to-be stepmom. Do you find that Meredith has followed you throughout your career?
Oh, for sure, but I love it. I do get recognized, and more times than not, it’s for The Parent Trap, and I love that. I’m so proud and so happy to have been a part of that movie and that character. I love Meredith.
