As Paloma Park (@palomapark.athens) opened its doors on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 6, a line of excited Athen’s goers filed into the restaurant for 818 Tequila’s “Tacos and Tequilas” Tuesday Takeover. Rumors spread like wildfire once the news was out, but prior, students and Paloma staff did not know that they were about to witness the presence of Hollywood royalty. Kendall Jenner (@kendalljenner), owner and creator of the popular 818 Tequila brand, had chosen Athens to showcase her celebrated tequila in style. The team at Paloma Park was approached last week by Kendall’s team, who requested their venue exclusively for the event.
After speaking with general manager Hank Sewell, he made it very clear that they had to understand the magnitude of the opportunity and had to keep it a secret from the public until the night of the takeover. With Kendall in the house, Paloma Park spared no expense in creating a memorable evening. The staff prepared the signature cocktail for the night, a tantalizing blend of 818 Tequila, blood orange, mint syrup and ginger beer. Leading up to the event, the staff was confused as to why there were so much 818, and some even fainted when they found out.
Word spread quickly, and students from nearby colleges left early to get in a line that extended down the sidewalk. The excitement reached its peak when Kendall made her grand entrance and assumed a spot behind the bar.
