In the Shantell Martin x Joya collaboration, philosophy, fragrance and art combine as a candle collection brimming with nuance.

Shantell Martin (@shantell_ martin), a multimedia artist an d philosopher, is infusing her own school of thought into a limited-run edition with Joya (@joyastudio) glass votive and porcelain candles. The philosophy behind the candle is a layered sensory experience that is more than your average candle. The hand-poured candles were designed to aid in creative meditation and work as a background catalyst for focus.

Purposely made with the ability to release two scents in time intervals, its notes, from shaded green tea and ocean air to heliotrope petals and vanilla flowers, become your sensory playlist. Martin’s artistry comes through in her signature lines that calm and ground our racing minds, making space for optimal productivity in whatever we set our minds to. While candles typically blend into the coff eetable decor, those in this collection stand alone and inspire conversation ranging from the creative process behind the candles to the peace of mind you have when lighting them. Made in Joya’s 19th century rigging garage-turned-ceramic atelier, visions aligned in this collaboration to celebrate the same methodological process the candles are meant to inspire. A thoughtful pouring procedure deposits the complex scents into a glass votive ornamented with hand-drawn and handwritten artwork incorporating the candles’ themes of focus, everyday hours and minutes spent. This candle might be the answer to your creative block, and after you have taken advantage of the clarity it evokes, each votive can be repurposed to add to your home’s aesthetic.
