As soon as that first day of summer hits, you start looking to make friends with someone who owns a boat, but what if we told you there was an easier way?
Meet GetMyBoat, the boat rental and water experience marketplace some are calling the “Airbnb of boats.”
Founded by 2013 by Bay Area residents Sascha Mornell and Rafael Collado, GetMyBoat connects would-be captains with available yachts, catamarans and more than 130,000 other seafaring transport opps from Miami to Tahoe, Colombia, Nassau, Portugal. In fact, GetMyBoats services 184 countries and more than 9,300 seaside locations via the GetMyBoat website or via mobile apps on both iOS and Android.
Mornell and Collado said they were inspired to create the service after taking a trip to the water and seeing all those unused boats stuck at dock. The service has taken off fast, clocking an astounding 700 percent year-over-year growth from January to April of 2021.
"2021 is off to an incredible start with tremendous, pent-up demand,” Chief Operating Officer Bryan Petro is quoted in a press release. “There has always been a significant desire for boating experiences, but last year really amplified the need for customers to get out on the water quickly, easily and safely.”
It’s not just about that #boatlife though. GetMyBoat also provides users with all manner of water activities and excursions, from whale watching in Cabo San Lucas to sport fishing in Playa Del Carmen, scuba lessons in Baja California and more.
"Due to travel limitations and lockdowns that continue in other parts of the world,” Petro continues. “I’m excited to say we have not yet come close to tapping our full potential. Many global markets are still at least partially closed, and we expect that our business will further increase in the coming months as more locations ease restrictions."
In fact, the company just teamed with Disney on a special sweepstakes event, offering a grand prize complimentary boat rental for up to six passengers in celebration of the studio’s latest film Jungle Cruise.
