Looking for a little inspiration? We know a spot. Welcome to Gallery Anderson Smith, the Atlanta-based artist’s first brick-and-mortar studio. The gallery, which has been open since Sept. 16, is located in Buckhead Village, right in the heart of downtown Buckhead. Although he was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Smith made the move to Atlanta in 1998. He’s called the city home for 24 years now—and it shows in his art. Smith’s work is a true reflection of urban space: beauty and chaos intermingling to create a vibrancy that captures the essence of Atlanta. Throughout his five collections, Ms Vanity, Beautiful Chaos, Icons, Foto Fusion and Abstract Chaos, Smith combines elements of collage, graffiti, color and texture to create canvases that are as chaotic as they are alluring. His intention? To get people talking. Growing up, Smith wanted to be a cartoonist, an interest that has taken center stage in his creative process. Elements of pop culture, from iconic forces in the fashion and music industry to vintage cartoons, make his work unquestionably American and Atlantan all the same. Because of its strong ties to the city’s heartbeat, it’s no surprise Smith’s work is a favorite throughout Atlanta’s art community. In fact, the artist holds a resident spot at some of the city’s most acclaimed art galleries. Currently, his pieces are showcased in some of Atlanta’s most iconic spaces, including Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and famed restaurant and cigar lounge Fellaship.ATL, as well as within the personal collections of NFL pro Cam Newton and iconic rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris. Anderson’s work is enjoyed by every facet of Atlanta’s elite, from entertainment tycoons to art critics. Now, with the opening of Gallery Anderson Smith in Buckhead, everyone can join in on the experience.
