Finding "The One"

By Kelsie Allen Barton | February 7, 2017 | Articles

What do brides need to know before coming in for an appointment? I encourage brides to peruse magazines, designer websites and social media to gather ideas of what type of gown they are drawn to. This will give us an idea of the mood they are going for and help us guide the bride during her appointment. We try to be very respectful of each bride’s desired investment for her gown, so I also recommend that the bride discuss budget with the powers that be before shopping so that everyone is on the same page during the appointment. Lastly, know that formal gowns do run smaller than regular clothing. Expect to wear one to two sizes above your regular size and know that it is just the cut of the gown that make them fit so much differently.

How far in advance of the wedding should brides begin their dress search? Bridal gowns typically take three to six months to arrive after an order is placed, depending on the designer, intricacy of the gown and time of year. I recommend that a bride begin shopping for her gown six to 12 months before her wedding date to be sure she has time to shop and to give her the greatest chance to get the gown of her dreams.

Should brides bring along friends and family, or is it better to shop without an entourage? Definitely! This is a big decision, and we want our brides to have trustworthy people with them to help them through it. That being said, too many people can present conflicting opinions. ... A bride can always bring her bridal party or other family members in later to show them the gown, help her shop for accessories and help find a complementing bridesmaid dress. That way everyone is included in the process at some point.

What essentials should a bride have with her at the appointment? A great strapless bra, a pair of heels that you feel comfortable in and any shapewear that you may want to try on with gowns. We also recommend bringing in a few pictures of ideas that you love as well as having your makeup and hair done for your appointment. I don’t mean a full updo, but it is easier to see yourself as the beautiful bride you will be on your wedding day with your typical makeup on and hair done than [it is] in a ponytail and sweaty gym clothes.

How would you describe the type of experience that Bride Beautiful offers its brides? I have to brag on my awesome staff! Our stylists have been in the industry for years and really know what they are talking about. We try to listen to our brides and really narrow in on the overall mood they want for their wedding and how they want to feel on their big day. Then we go to work to find THE dress that will make them feel 100 percent special. We are a laid-back store and love to have fun with our brides as well. We try to make the process as easy as possible. ... It should not be stressful! @bridebeautifulatlanta
