Even Your Fat Is Melting Away in the Atlanta Heat This Summer

The conversation on noninvasive fat reduction runs both hot and cold.

“CoolSculpting to freeze away fat coupled with Ultherapy to tighten the skin
is a killer combo for the tummy,” says Dr. Adarsh Vijay Mudgil of Mudgil Dermatology in Manhattan.

Unfortunately, it probably started with Photoshop and unrealistic expectations,” says Dr. Arash Akhavan of The Dermatology and Laser Group (@dermatologyandlasergroup) about the increasing number of requests to slim areas as swimsuit season approaches. Due to demand for backside toning, Akhavan and his team developed the Perfected Protocol, which uses a combination of noninvasive fat contouring with SculpSure; lifting and toning with Emsculpt; smoothing and rounding with PRP injections; shockwave therapy with the Zimmer ZWave; and skin tightening with Ultherapy and TempSure ($7,000 to $15,000). For even more buttocks refining, Kybella injections further contour fat (which may need a longer two- to three-week period of recovery for bruising and swelling).

“CoolSculpting to freeze away fat coupled with Ultherapy to tighten the skin is a killer combo for the tummy,” says Dr. Adarsh Vijay Mudgil of Mudgil Dermatology (@dr_mudgil). Mudgil notes that CoolSculpting is especially hot this time of year for other areas too such as the outer and inner thighs and the “banana roll” below the booty. “Cellfina—a cellulite treatment that actually works—is also something good to do now, prebikini season,” he says. CoolSculpting ranges from $800 to $4,800, while Cellfina ranges from $4,000 to $5,000.

For the face, Ultherapy ($4,200 for full face, $6,000 for face and neck) takes the trophy, according to Camille Meyer, owner of Tribeca MedSpa (@tribecamedspa). Offering a nonsurgical alternative to a face-lift, Ultherapy delivers focused ultrasound energy to the same foundational layer typically addressed during cosmetic surgeries such as face-lifts. It’s the only noninvasive procedure FDA-cleared to lift the skin while stimulating collagen production. The results last two to five years, and most patients see results after one treatment, which can often include both a slimming and a tightening effect.

Whether it’s melting fat cells with SculpSure lasers or freezing them with CoolSculpting, this season’s hottest way to a more svelte self need not require a knife.
