Anyone who has been in Atlanta for more than a week has heard of El Azteca (@elaztecaatlanta). Known for their delicious Tex-Mex cuisine, extensive wine and spirits list, and, most of all, their neighborly and inviting atmosphere, these restos owned by the Macias Group are an ATL staple. Perimeter is the lucky recipient of the next installment of the Macias Group’s long-standing success, with a new El Azteca opening in early March on Peachtree Dunwoody Road. “This location was simply the perfect fit,” says Victor Macias, owner of the soon-to-bow restaurant. “We can’t wait to join the Perimeter community.” Indeed, between its two stories of panoramic views, floor-to-ceiling windows, stunning bars and a wall mural window display complete with nods to vendors such as Corona and Milagro tequila, there is something special about the upscale space. A sprawling 10,000-plus square feet plus a first floor patio and wraparound outdoor seating on the second floor give plenty of space for diners to enjoy El Azteca’s menu of Tex-Mex favorites. Macias’ favorite dish? “The fajita quesadilla. Plenty of cheese, grilled peppers and onions, and your choice of chicken, steak or shrimp.”

Macias and his team gave the building a facelift to more closely align with El Azteca’s signature ambiance, though the space was practically turnkey when they purchased it. “We wanted it to feel like stepping across the threshold transports you from Atlanta to Mexico,” shares Macias, who personally took on the updates, such as sprucing up the upholstery. Part of a family-owned and -operated business, El Azteca Buckhead and Sandy Springs are known for their welcoming atmosphere and deeply rooted place in the community. “Every time I walk in I see regulars who have been dining with us for years, decades even,” says Macias. “I often see a patron at our Buckhead location who had her first date at El Azteca and has since married the guy and had multiple children. I can’t wait to replicate that at Perimeter.” The Macias Group has a knack for melding the soul of Atlanta’s favorite neighborhoods with Mexico’s vibrant culture, and Perimeter will be all the better for it. Other ATL locales, don’t fret: There’s already a fourth El Azteca in the works.
