Want to Look five years younger without going under the knife? Microneedling with radio frequency treatment Profound offers an impressive alternative to the face-lift.
"Profound is an energy-based treatment using radio frequency energy to the dermis through microneedling,” says Dr. Laura Beaty of Beaty Facial Plastic Surgery, which was the first practice to acquire and provide the Profound RF treatment in the Atlanta area. “This is the only device proven to stimulate all three building blocks of the skin: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid,” explains Beaty. “We hear so much about collagen, but that is only a third of what matters.” The treatment is clinically proven to create up to five times more elastin and up to two times more collagen, as well as increase hyaluronic acid levels in the skin.
Unlike traditional microneedling, which Beaty notes is used in more routine skincare regimens to improve skin texture, during a Profound treatment, energy is passed between five pairs of microneedles that are in the dermis. “This passing or sharing of energy between the needles creates a much larger treatment area,” Beaty says. It also creates longer-lasting results. “Like much of what we do, the results are permanent.”
The treatment, which is often used to combat loose skin on the face and neck, is also used to reduce the appearance of cellulite and is the only FDA-approved radio frequency microneedling device for both the face and body. Beaty says that she has treated a variety of areas such as the lower abdomen, “banana roll” and outer thigh.
There is some downtime, with typically seven to 10 days of bruising and swelling, which varies by patient. The first results can be seen within three months, and most patients achieve full results at the nine-month mark.
