Establishment exudes a sexy-cozy vibe.
Come one, come all, drink snobs! Brandon Lewis’ clandestine new Buckhead boîte, Establishment, is dressed to impress. Known for his work with Karma Lounge, The Mark Ultra Lounge, Click Models, STATS and Atlanta Eats, this honorary Southerner and history buff set out to create the ultimate locals’ place—and succeeded in spades. His latest lounge pays tribute to Buckhead founder Henry Irby (tales of hunting and hanging the head of a prized buck abound). Located between Luna and Locos, the stag-themed bar looks all things 19th century, thanks to sexy-cozy interiors by Wendy McGrew.
Design highlights include curving brocade booths, cowhide barstools, antler chandeliers and a pretty little patio for puffing cigars. Patrons watch food ferried through a trap door, and DJs climb a ladder to the spin booth, where they’re stationed three nights a week.
Establishment’s dapper “cocktail scientist,” Dave Reed, was plucked from nearby Prohibition to tend bar, and he does so like a boss—with hand-carved ice, housemade everything and oodles of reinvented vintage recipes. (Think deconstructed cosmos and dirties, wicked whiskey flights and a Manhattan refreshing enough to drink neat.) The six select craft beers are equally swoonworthy. Want to give this tavern a go? It’s best to swing by before or after dinner. Down-to-earth taste buds will find bright moments among the bar snacks, including heavenly bacon marmalade and simple beef sliders slathered with bourbon glaze. While late-night hankerings can be sated with a thick Delmonico steak and truffle fries. (You’re welcome.)
