Balenciaga is giving sneakerheads a new way to collect—as sculptural art.
The first release includes a limited-edition sculpture of the Track.2 sneaker that weighs 5.5 pounds.
Because who wouldn’t want a Balenciaga sneaker sculpture? The luxury European fashion brand is trying something new with a collection of timeless and collectible pieces. The Objects line features a treasure trove of memorialized everyday items. The first Object launched mid November, a metal sculpture in the exact shape of a size 41 Track.2 sneaker. Echoing the concept of art that redefined everyday products, this sculpture is a combination of bronzed baby shoe keepsake and a dadaist readymade. This particular shoe has had a large place in recent pop culture, so the trophylike sculpture brings sentimental value. The first item of Balenciaga Objects is sold in a limited edition, made in Italy, with only 20 available worldwide—but this is just the beginning for Balenciaga Objects. 153 NW 40th St.; 9700 Collins Ave., Ste. 119; balenciaga.com
