How did you become interested in the music industry?
I started in the industry at a very young age. I wanted to be in the entertainment field since I could speak basically. I loved listening to Christina Aguilera, PINK, Selena Quintanilla and Toni Braxton. I had so many influences in my life.
How does your music represent and speak to the Mexican-Puerto Rican experience?
Well, I always loved where my family came from. I never felt like I truly fit in, and music was my only safe place. I love any Caribbean elements, and I get that from my Puerto Rican side. The culture I grew up with the most was my Mexican side, though, thanks to my mom. It instilled a lot of pride and respect, so when I make music, I make it for them too.
How have you re-imagined traditional genres to create your distinct style?
I would love to hear more music mashup styles, especially tropical pop and r&b. I always called my style Atlanta meets Miami.
What specific Mexican and Puerto Rican music elements have been most influential to your sound?
The drums and the guitar strings have been a massive element in my music. The rhythm and culture you feel when listening to Spanish music or reggaeton. There’s something magical there.
What have been the most rewarding aspects of working with Meta and Dalé Tu?
It is a part of something bigger than just myself. I moved to LA and got the opportunity with Meta within three months of being there. It was a d ream come true, and being a part of a group of Latinx creatives felt unreal. We were part of a movement to be seen and to be heard. To amplify the voices of Latinos and make positive changes on our platforms. To stay inclusive.
What has been the most memorable experience from your journey as a musician?
It was being able to perform the halftime show at the State Farm arena for the NBA halftime show. It was such a fantastic pinnacle moment in my career that I w ill always and forever cherish
How do you hope to inspire other musicians with your unique style?
Just forget about the noise and be yourself. This world and industry will try to break you down bit by bit, and people will try to break your spirit but just continue. Have fun with what you’re doing. If you’re not having fun, that’s where it’s going wrong. So just remember why you fell in love with music in the first place.
What’s your favorite part about Atlanta?
My favorite part is the people. My city is a big part of me. It’s a big part of my soul and personality. I miss the food and the people. My community is beautiful and colorful, and I am so proud to be a Latina from Atlanta.
