“I think my photographs show the side of me that no one else gets to see,” says Atlanta-based photographer Ahmad Barber. To JEZEBEL’s avid readers and Insta followers, the Detroit-born 28-year-old’s name sounds familiar: You might recognize it from 2018’s “50 Most Beautiful Atlantans” feature. Or this year’s 20 Most Eligible Atlantans issue. Or March’s “Clothes Minded” story. Or fab’rik owner Dana Spinola’s feature last September. You get the gist; we can’t get enough of this Atlantan’s reportage-style photography and infectiously positive personality to boot—and clearly neither can his loyal 19.1K-plus Insta followers.
ATL’s Ahmad Barber worked with Bloomingdale’s, Lenox Square, on this photo shoot showing off the latest designs from Sandro Paris.
Outside of JEZEBEL’s glossy pages, the color- and shape-obsessed creative can be found in the studio, possibly with local photographer and close friend Donté Maurice, snapping artful shots under the duo’s co-founded AB+DM Studio name. “We are two different photographers with two different visions, but we complement each other so well—definitely a yin and yang type of balance,” notes Barber.
A fan of color, Barber brought out all the yellow stops for this photo shoot with model Julian Green.
A shining moment for the Morehouse College grad came just a couple years ago when he landed a campaign with Forever 21 for ATL-born rapper Future’s collaboration with the national biz, dubbed Cease x HNDRXX. “Forever 21 was a huge moment for me,” says Barber. “It was simply a random call from a friend who trusted me to execute the shoot. He didn’t even mention it was going to be a big deal until we were done with everything. Next thing you know, it’s in Times Square. I will never forget that moment.” We’ll raise a Diet Coke with light ice to that. #IYKYK @ahmadbarber; @abdmstudio
