New Restaurant By George Opens At The Candler Hotel

By George’s dining room accommodates both small and large parties.
Upon entrance, The Candler Hotel—the highly anticipated reimagining of Downtown’s iconic The Candler Building—is, in one word, impressive. And with its historic past as Atlanta’s first steel skyscraper and the rumored hiding place of the original Coca-Cola recipe, how could it not be? It’s only fitting that the hotel’s restored grand marble staircase, decadent Tiffany windows and Beaux Arts architectural details be matched with equally charming cuisine. And so came By George, an all-day eatery headed by chef Hugh Acheson of Top Chef Masters fame. Settled just off The Candler Hotel’s lobby, the restaurant offers an on-site bar, a cozy seating area and undisrupted streetside views of Atlanta’s Downtown bustle, each with as much grandeur as the rest of the establishment. The menu offers classic cuisine influenced by traditional French cooking and is not to be outdone by a list of cocktails crafted by mixologist Kellie Thorn. For those looking to imbibe in something more traditional, By George boasts an expert wine list curated by in-house sommelier Steven Grubbs—we told you it’s got it all! With so much to offer, By George may seem a bit overwhelming (how does one choose between a classic cab or a cocktail dubbed La Bonne Lounge, which translates to a ‘good long drink’?), but Martin Wormull, general manager of The Candler Hotel, says it’s simply “the perfect setting to unwind with a cocktail or a glass of wine.”
